Powelton Presbyterian Church, founded in 1880, has been a cornerstone of faith and community in Wachapreague, Virginia, for over 140 years. The church's beginnings were rooted in early missionary work led by Rev. John G. Anderson, whose dedication helped establish the congregation despite initial challenges. The original church building, constructed in 1881 with community support, remains in use today, showcasing historic gothic architecture and early stained glass windows.
Throughout its history, the church has endured as a steadfast presence, adapting to changes while maintaining its mission of serving others. From fostering the Greenview Presbyterian congregation in 1919 to sharing pastors with neighboring churches, Powelton Presbyterian has consistently demonstrated resilience, generosity, and a commitment to its values.
